Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease of skin characterised by silver, scaly, reddish toned skin. It can occur at any part of the body. Normally aggravates in winter season psoriasis can itchy and painful but is not contagious.
Normally our skin cells mature in approximately 4 weeks, but in psoriasis the cells mature in 3 to 4 days, resulting in building up the layers of skin before previous layers are been shed. That gives a scaly look, leading to lots of shedding of skin.
Psoriasis can remain dormant for years but may flare up with triggering factors like
You may have inherited it in your genes from one or both your parents, but the genes may remain dormant for whole of your life if you are not triggering them.
Theory of epigenetics strongly suggest that most of us carry the genes for different morbid diseases like Psoriasis, Cancer etc but it’s the milieu, the environment that we provide, may trigger the genes to present the symptoms or may keep them shut down for whole of the life.
