According to World Health Organisation (WHO) - “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
Do you think when we finally get the disease or the symptoms of the disease are visible in our body only then we can be termed as a patient? Or there is something else? Actually, our body is a combination of 30 to 60 trillion cells (30,000,000,000,000) cells and according to one estimate approx. 39 trillion bacteria. Can you imagine that?
Now see with so many numbers of cells working actively i.e. breathing, eating, excreting and doing our job in a coordinated manner, it is a routine with the body that a lot number of cells die each day(Catabolism) and approx. same number of cells are formed(Anabolism). That’s how our body is renewed every day.
So, if we would talk about the disease especially the chronic diseases, they just do not happen overnight but the moment you would realise or diagnosed with Hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity, Heart Diseases, Cancer, Thyroid etc. the process may have started much earlier, maybe 5 or 10 years ago. When the damage actually started but since there were no symptoms so didn’t feel the need to go to a doctor and by the time, we get symptoms and go to the Doctor the damage is already done. Now go on eating the medication for whole of your life.
Now can we do something in the beginning so that we do not have to take the medicines for whole life. Yes, with the advancement in medical science we can start the process well in advance and with necessary changes in diet and lifestyle we can reduce the probabilities of these diseases.
